Telemedicine Adult Congenital Heart Disease Cardiology in New York

Expert ACHD care by secure video visit — available to patients across Upstate and Western New York.

How Telemedicine Has Changed ACHD Access

Telemedicine has fundamentally expanded access to adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) care. Because there are fewer than 500 board-certified ACHD cardiologists in the United States, most patients live far from a specialized ACHD center. Many have historically driven two, three, or more hours each way to see a specialist — a burden that leads to delayed follow-up, missed appointments, and lapses in care. Secure video visits allow patients to see a board-certified ACHD cardiologist for routine surveillance, medication reviews, symptom evaluations, second opinions, pre-procedure consultation, and long-term care planning — without leaving home or taking a full day off work.

What Can Be Accomplished in a Telemedicine ACHD Visit

A telemedicine ACHD visit is substantively equivalent to an in-person consultation for the majority of clinical encounters. During a secure video visit, your cardiologist can conduct a detailed history and symptom review, discuss the results of recent testing (echocardiograms, cardiac MRI, Holter monitors, exercise stress tests), manage medications including diuretics, anticoagulants, and heart failure therapies, assess your functional status and exercise tolerance, counsel you on pregnancy, sports participation, and endocarditis prophylaxis, and formulate a care plan in coordination with your local cardiologist, primary care team, and subspecialty consultants. Telemedicine does not replace every in-person visit — certain examinations, procedures, and urgent evaluations require physical presence — but it dramatically reduces the logistical burden of subspecialty follow-up.

    How It Works

Telemedicine ACHD Care Across New York State

Congenital Heart Compass Medical PLLC delivers ACHD telemedicine care to patients across New York State. Patients must be physically located in New York at the time of their visit. We serve patients in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, Binghamton, the Southern Tier, the Finger Lakes, the North Country, and all regions of Upstate and Western New York. We coordinate directly with your local cardiologist, primary care physician, and regional imaging and testing facilities so that your ACHD care plan is integrated into your broader healthcare — not siloed in a distant academic center.

    Insurance and Scheduling

We accept most major commercial insurance plans, Medicare, and Medicaid. New York State law requires insurers to cover telemedicine services at parity with in-person care for most plan types. To schedule an initial ACHD telemedicine consultation, use our online scheduling link or contact our office directly. We recommend patients have recent cardiac records, echocardiogram reports, and operative notes available to share prior to the visit to allow your cardiologist to review your full history before the appointment.
